Blue Sabbath Black Cheer is one of my favourite horror noise bands right now.  A duo from Portland, the band distill clouds of dense distortion into black metal forms. Crows …is a compilation which came out last year on the excellent Swedeish label Release the Bats. . The thing that strikes me about Crows is that maybe this is the natural progression of Black Metal. If bands like Sunn O))) just left the riffs in from Black Metal then a band like Blue Sabbath Black Cheer represents everything else that remained. Total darkness, total noise. For the full effect you need to listen to the sixth track here – a 17 minute behemoth of a thing which  may be one of the most striking horror-noise  tracks I’ve ever heard. Not for the faint hearted but for anyone interested in  a rather nasty sub-genre of noise, Crows … is a great listen.
